I run courses in tapestry weaving and shafted loom weaving for beginners and improvers.

Tapestry Weaving Tuition

I run tapestry weaving courses for 2 students in my studio, or for groups of up to 8 at other venues. A 1-day beginners workshop covers the basics:

• how to warp a tapestry frame
• attaching a heading cord
• weaving the heading
• using a cartoon
• basic weaving techniques: selvedges, multiple wefts, slit control and some colour blending.

The next beginners workshop is on Wednesday 28th September 2011 at Artisan in Poundbury, Dorchester. I am also running a follow on workshop "Weave a Flower" on Saturday 12th November 2011 in Broadmayne.

I supply yarns for use in these workshops at nominal cost. If you don't have a tapestry frame these are available to purchase at £10 each.

Shafted Loom Weaving Tuition

Beginners courses, limited to 2 students, are usually run over either six half days or three full days and cover:

• winding a warp
• applying the warp to the loom
• basic weaving techniques.

For the first piece of weaving we use rug wools to make a bag fabric in a broken twill pattern with three different colours.

Dates and times for courses can be flexible to suit the attendees. For students who don't own looms, table looms and other weaving equipment are available to hire for a small charge.

Further Information

Due to the limited space in my studio in Poole, Dorset courses there are limited to two students. Further private tuition is also available on an hourly basis.
